A Better Approach To Learning Skills

x
Unlike most psychology classes, where a professor drones on about study and study that lacks personal relevancy, we present a number of PRACTICAL THEORIES—theory that you are applying each week.

And we use a application model called ACTION LEARNING. Each week, one will be running a “experiment” to apply theory in your life and encourage and support class participants to practice as many times as needed to build a reasonable level of expertise.

So much effort in psychology is focused on the mentally ill, research on average minds and how to make a broken mind normal. This course takes a different approach. Its purpose is to take the untrained mind and turn it into an exceptional one. To do so, it looks at principles of positive psychology and Buddhist philosophy; the limitations of attention leading to mindlessness; strengthening mindfulness, using meditation to reduce stress; using more positive states of mind such as spirituality, resilience, empathy and compassion. It looks at the characteristics of the immature Ego, its character flaws and the mechanisms that keep it that way. And it examines the pursuit of happiness and the research into what makes one happy and unhappy. Finally, you will acquire insight into your character, personality traits, sins and virtues.

This is an applied class. You are expected to apply the theory to improve yourself and improve the quality of your life.
  • Escape the stress that keeps you caged in misery and suffering.

We daily experience worry, fear, anxiety, shame, guilt, anger, frustration; plus job and family pressures that whip up pressure levels greater and greater. But take heart. By learning and practicing two relaxation techniques and meditation, you can experience more calm, peace and serenity.

This on-line relaxation and meditation class first presents content to better understand the nature of how stress impacts the mind and body. Then the class then delves into learning mechanisms to decrease its affects and how to access the relaxation response associated with meditation.

    Discover how to:

    1) Produce relaxation by using the breath,

    2) Relax the voluntary muscles, and

To properly learn how to use any complex machine, you need an Owner's Manual. Yet, the vast majority of people have never attempted to understand how to use the most complex "machine" of all—the human mind. This ignorance leaves us unaware of its capabilities.

It's like having a high performance engine with only two out of eight cylinders working; leaving a great book on the shelf unread; having a great cookbook but never using it.

Ignorance is your greatest barrier to success; whether you work in business. government or education. And the more you know about how your own mind works, the smoother the path to success.

    Modules include:

Positive Psychology—A Means For Personal Self-Discovery and Understanding

Key States for Greater Insight—Creativity, Intuition and Dreams

The Dark Side of Human Nature—Selfishness, Aggression and Greed

It was the great Harvard psychologist William James who estimated the average person uses only 10% of our mental potential. Mankind’s greatest untapped resource does not lie under the oceans or hidden in the ground, it’s what should be accessed and cultivated between the ears. To do this, we offer two types of classes.

Level 1 Classes. These courses focus on understanding and helping the Ego cope with the environment. They mostly address understanding individual behaviors and group norms.

Level 2 Classes. The primary focus is the inner world of the mind — developing communication channels with the unconscious, controlling
states of mind, and further developing mental processes such awareness, imagery, etc.

We employ a number of techniques for learning both knowledge and skill. However, unless we are requested to do so by an employer for grade reimbursement or a university requires it, we do not issue grades.

So rather than having a A, B, C and so on, we make use of a number of FEEDBACK mechanisms and use REFLECTION, a method use for thousands of years in Buddhism. For example, we make use of a number of positive and negative feedback methods to help one learn what you are doing right and what to change.
